A very little-known but wonderful spot on the D’Aguilar Range, in the Brisbane Forest Park, will be our aim on this easy but long Sunday outing. Starting half-way up to Mt. Nebo it will take us about three hours along a very nice ridge to reach our destination. With an early 8:30 am start, we should be able to enjoy lunch on top of Mermaid Mountain, with a ‘Million Dollar View’ from the Toowoomba ranges to Cunninghams Gap and the deep blue waters of Lake Manchester below our dangling feet. (See picture above, oh yeah-ring us if you can guess the exact location of that view!)
In the afternoon we head back along the same forestry roads and return to our cars around 4pm. This is not a difficult walk, but quite a long one, approx. 21 km return. We have done this walk some seven and eleven years ago and there is a very nice, truthful write up about it by an enthusiastic novice SSQ bush walker at the time.

Meeting Point: 8:15 am, Mt. Nebo Road

(Give us a ring so we know who to look for!)

To get there: Take Waterworks Road to the Gap (20 min from City)

and then head for Mt. Nebo. Go past the Bellbird Grove turn off on

the right and continue for approx. 8 km. Look for us on the left side,

where ‘Scrub Road’ heads into the forest and park along the

roadside on right! (Do more than 8 km from Bellbird Grove turn

and you have missed us!) Check your UBD map for Mt Nebo Road

but Scrub Road is not marked!

Bring along: Good walking shoes (sneakers are ok)

plenty of water, lunch & snacks (a lightweight day-pack)

and a raincoat just in case of a shower and of course
